Insiza News: Burning of People’s homes is to Insiza District what exposed human bones is to Matopo District
An analysis of the developing discourses
in Matebeleland South shows that it is slowly but surely becoming an
interesting scene with politicians seizing every opportunity that comes by to sell their parties.
Only in February this year Mthwakazi
Republic Party (MRP) buried exposed human bones that were lying idle in the
open at Gwandevale, an occurance regarded as taboo in the African culture. More than the
shock that this development carried is the evidence it is providing to authenticate
that at some stage, Zimbabweans lost their lives and concurrently, they were
hurriedly buried. According to the Bible, nothing hidden will covered, no stone
will remain on top of the other.
To expose the ills of the perpetrators
of the genocide, God sent Cyclone Dineo which without much trouble scooped the
soil from the already evidently shallow graves along the banks of Bhode River
which is less than 200m from Kezi Police Station.
At the moment, there is still a debate on whether to pronounce the Gukurahundi Massacres a genocide or not. Loosely put,
the word “genocide” refers to the deliberate killing of a large group of
people, especially those of a particular nation or ethnic group”. 20 000
therefore is large enough to be called a genocide. Therefore, according to this
blog it shall hereafter be referred to as such.
Most importantly, this article is not to
give a detailed outline of Gukurahundi nor does it seek to fully explore
the Insiza saga. It simply highlights the importance of those events to the
current political developments with regards these two locations. It is
interesting that Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) is leading in both cases
and is possibly the only party which for now can stand face-to-face with
increased immunity to all ZANU-PF led threats.
Any politician wishing to gain mileage
in these two regions should definitely have something to say and promise to the
people with regards these issues. Chief Jahana in Insiza has 4 000 critical
followers behind him in Insiza while Matopo District has also another huge
chunk.
